Rice’s Pharmacy is a relatively new partner with the Cady Wellness institute, but not to the business of compounding. Located in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Rice’s Pharmacy has been providing compounded prescriptions for nearly 45 years. Levi Rice, a registered pharmacist, began the business 45 years ago and it has maintained a strong family business mindset. Though compounding pharmacies are growing more rare in today’s automated medical world, Rice’s values compounding as a service to the community and their customers.
Compounding is the process of taking drugs and changing dosages, tastes, and even the form of the medication. This method allows doctors to prescribe medications in such a way that might not otherwise be commercially available. For example, promethazine, a medication often used for nausea, can be compounded transdermally so that patients who cannot swallow or keep down the medication can rub a dose onto their skin for absorption and relief. At Cady Wellness Institute, we utilize this capability for our bioidentical hormone and thyroid patients. Most recently, we have even worked with Rice’s Pharmacy to create a lollipop for our Whitney’s Weigh patients to assist with sugar cravings while also delivering essential vitamins and nutrients.
This exciting partnership allows Cady Wellness Institute to be even more specific in tailoring a unique plan of care for our patients. The trained staff at Rice’s Pharmacy bring years of schooling and experience to the table, and they will always put the patient’s best interest first. Amy Tichenor, PharmD, and Karen Chinn, CPhT, work together to create out-of-the-box solutions for patients with unique needs. They are dedicated to ensuring a consistent and highest-quality product.
Rice’s Pharmacy offers several other services in addition to compounding. They boast a beautiful gift department. They also have two certified diabetic shoe fitters on staff. In the back of the store lies a separate boutique especially for mastectomy patients, where certified fitters help women find bras and swimsuits they can feel comfortable and beautiful in. A certified respiratory therapist helps people with bipap and cpap equipment to ensure proper fitting and flow. Services such as these illustrate the community-mindedness and desire to serve that made Rice’s Pharmacy stand out to us at CWI.
The collaboration between the staff at CWI, the pharmacists at Rice’s, and our shared patients ensures that our patients receive the best possible care and support, achieving optimal results faster.
