Allen M. Toy MS, LCSW
Allen Toy is a Master’s level therapist with a degree in clinical psychology and over thirty five years of experience. He treats clients of all ages – from pediatrics to geriatrics.
He was born in Huntington, WV. His mother actually helped set up Medicare through Blue Cross Blue Shield in West Virginia. In 1974, in London, England, he had a life transforming experience when he had the opportunity to work with a five-year-old boy with brain damage because of repeated beatings from his parents. This revealed to Allen that “I wanted to be help people with brain rehabilitation, or just work with people that had been through trauma – either physical or emotional.”
His background is impressive with a Bachelor’s in Psychology is from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV (1977), and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Evansville (1982). His License and Certification is as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Indiana).
He developed a deep interest in neuropsychology while working at the Tristate Rehabilitation Hospital from 1993 – 1999.
Allen has a long history of clinical practice, starting as a behavioral clinician at the Evansville State Hospital (184-1993_ while at the same time serving as a part-time counselor for the United Methodist Youth Home in Evansville, IN. and then working at Tri-State Rehabilitation Hospital for six years (1993-1999) . It was at Tristate Rehabilitation Hospital that his interests in brain trauma and recovery were truly kindled.
In the past, Allen also worked as the Program Director at the Deaconess Cross Pointe Hospital in Evansville, IN, a therapist for five years at River Valley Behavioral Health in Owensboro, and, while still practicing, worked as a part-time clinical sub-investigator for Pedia Research in Owensboro, KY.
In addition to his clinical work, Allen is served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Southern Indiana preparing and presenting classes in clinical psychology. He is currently serving as an adjunct Instructor at Oakland City University – a position he has held since 2005.
Allen is working one day a week at Cady Wellness Institute at present, as well as concurrently serving as a therapist at Vanguard Eldercare here in Evansville. Locally, he has done independent private practice with Consolidated Behavioral Health Services as well as Acacia.
Specific therapeutic interests at the current time include the following: recovery from brain trauma, recovery from psychological trauma, lifestyle and ADD coaching, and cognitive therapy for depression and anxiety. He sees all ages – from children to geriatric.
Allen has a low-key, warm, and friendly manner. Strikingly, he has personally dealt with ADHD and a learning disability and has thrived in his career in spite of it.
