Autism Spectrum disorder evaluations
Dr. Cady and the clinicians at Cady Wellness Institute carefully evaluate children referred to us for autism or “autistic spectrum disorder.” Frequently, parents have heard “there’s nothing that can be done medically,” or they have tried behavioral interventions and approaches, augmented communication devices, etc., with little benefit.
Our approach is a “biomedical” one. That is, we work with the hypothesis that there are things that are wrong in the child’s system, including toxic metal burden, vaccine injury from mercury (thimerosal is still widely used in vaccine preparation and manufacture), metal contamination from the environment (lead exposure is common, as is environmental exposure to toxic metals from coal fired power plants and other major industrial plants), viral burdens, gut dysfunction, IgG (“delayed”) food allergies, disrupted neurotransmitters and the like.
When possible, we use conventional laboratory testing that most people’s insurance will pay for. However, a great deal of work with autism is done on a “functional medicine” basis, and frequently conventional insurance does not pay for these types of labs. In the final analysis, and in our opinion, it is cheaper to pay for the labs and get the treatment up front, with the potential of improving or entirely ameliorating the child’s condition, than it is to pay for a lifetime of special ed, and assisted living. Remarkable progress is possible, though not guaranteed.
